New Year Insight?

We now live in what is called “the Enlightened Age”. But God has a different word for it. He calls it “night” and “darkness”. The only light now, and even that so often dim, is the remnant of born-again believers here and there throughout this darkened world. We are called the “children of light” and it is written; “we are not of the night, nor of darkness” in 1Thess 5:5.

So what is this “enlightenment” that we hear so much about today?  It certainly has nothing to do with more light from God for it does not involve seeking after God because “God is not in all their thoughts” as it says in Psalm 10:4.  This so called “enlightenment” is nothing but freedom from the old restraints:  freedom from God and from all that is right and decent. It is a more calloused conscience toward the same old sins.

Thus, the darkness of sin that brought God’s judgment down upon Sodom and Gomorrah is now called “acceptable” in this “enlightened” age.  But God still calls it “vile affections”.  In the same light, what once was outlawed as murder of an unborn infant is now a “human right.”  This “dark” list goes on and on.  On the other hand, the things that do shed God’s light such as prayer, the Bible, and anything that would teach our children the fear of God is ruled out of our schools and replaced with the filth that is even unprintable in newspapers.

Today, surely believers read the news about all the evil that triumphs over right with a sad heart.  We have to remember that it must be so from now on till our Lord comes. In the creation account of Gen 1:5, God’s days begin in the eventide; the darkness first and then the brightness of morning. So we wait for that blessed “morning”.

Before Judas betrayed the Lord, Satan entered into him and we read, “He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night” John13:30. It has been night ever since. The Lord Jesus was “the Light of the world,” but only so long as He was in the world.  Even though this began the long, dark night of this age and though it continues to get darker, we as God’s children have His light in us and must let that light shine forth brightly so others can see Jesus. However, that ultimate night will soon be over and there will be a glorious morning!

The Spoken Word Reveals the Heart

People often save their most important instructions and their most heartfelt expressions to say with their last dying breathe.  Of course, when Pancho Villa, the famous bandit was dying, he whispered in a man’s ear just, “Tell them I said something”, not really any heartfelt sentiment or instruction.  True story!

Although, many times the last words a man or woman speaks before stepping into eternity can be extremely significant.  For instance, what Jesus told His disciples before He left the earth in Acts 1:6-8 were words which included, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth." (Amplified Bible)  Think of it, the very words the Son of God uttered before ascending to the right hand of His Father is recorded here in Acts.  He didn’t say, “Be tolerant with one another”, “Save the whales”, “Celebrate diversity” or “Commit random acts of kindness”.  These words echo the Great Commission given by Christ in Matthew 28.  Is it really all that difficult for you and me to figure out what the Lord wants us to do while we wait for His return?  Actually, it couldn’t be more simple.  Regardless of the Bible translation used, we either believe what it says or we don’t.  We are either going to obey it or we are not.

Throughout His ministry, Jesus revealed His heart in this matter of sharing the gospel again and again.  As He gave His great message on the bread of life in John 6, He declared that 'He had come from heaven not to do His own will but the will of the One who sent Him'.

Anyone who listens to the Lord, quickly catches the passion of His heart.  Just before departing He didn’t say, “I’m coming back, and make sure you get all the prophetic nuances right!”  No, He said, “I’m returning to My Father and friends, you are My witnesses to the whole world. I’m counting on you to spread the word”.

Our Lord made evident His deep concern, by the way He lived.  Pastor share the Word and live it and God will multiply His blessings upon you.
